WEEE Behave campaign: Engaging primary schools in Varna and the region

In the fall of 2025, a large-scale information campaign WEEE Behave is planned, which aims to raise awareness among primary school students in Varna and the surrounding rural areas about the importance of proper management of electronic waste. Through innovative methods and engaging activities, children will be encouraged to become active participants in environmental protection and reducing the harmful impact of electronic waste.

Campaign objectives
– Education and awareness: To inform students from 1st to 4th grade about the harms of improper disposal of electronic waste and the benefits of recycling it.
– Practical skills: To teach children how to recognize and collect electronic waste correctly.
– Engagement and participation: To motivate students to actively participate in recycling and environmental protection initiatives.

During the campaign, the following will be organized:

  • Interactive lessons, special classes in schools, where through games, presentations and video materials children will learn more about electronic waste and its impact on nature.
  • Creative workshops where children will be able to create objects from recycled materials, which will encourage them to think creatively and sustainably.
  • Competition and awards: competitions for the best project or idea for recycling e-waste, with the winners receiving awards and recognition.
  • Partnerships with local organizations: in cooperation with the Municipality of Varna and small settlements in the region, as well as environmental organizations, joint actions will be held to collect and recycle e-waste.
  • Involving parents in the process through information sessions and joint activities that will strengthen family support for environmental initiatives.

Expected results
Increased awareness among students about the problems related to e-waste.
Reducing the amount of improperly disposed e-waste in the region.
Increasing the number of recycled electronic devices.
Forming long-term environmental habits in children.
Strengthening the connection between the school, family and local community in efforts to protect the environment.

The information campaign for e-waste is coordinated by the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA) as a national partner under the project eWAsTERPreventing e-waste from polluting MED water by turning waste into a resource. The campaign will not only help protect the environment, but will also encourage the younger generation to be more responsible and engaged in global environmental issues.

By joining forces with schools, parents and local authorities, we can make significant progress in the fight against electronic waste and ensure a cleaner and healthier future for all!
